In this image a woman is making ends meat by street performing. She is controlling a chicken and having it do tricks. She gives it food in return.

Page 2
Death is coming for this woman in the form of a winged humanoid entity. As she lays on her deathbed, this entity stands over her, capturing her spirit.

Page 3
The Woman who died is the street performer, who ate the chicken's food in order to survive. Her mother grieves over her dead body and lays down her own clothes on her daughter.

Page 4
The mother negotiates with death itself and asks it if she can trade places with her daughter.

Page 5
The daughter then awakens from her death and realizes that her mother has traded places for her. In sadness, she kills herself before going to bed.

Page 6
After hearing about the news of his dead relatives, the brother of the dead sister decided to take matters into his own hands by street performing and practices his act in his room.

Page 7
Even though the brother has gotten past the death of his loved ones, his other sisters did not and wanted the back. They meet with the entity death and hear it talk about making a deal saying that it will take their spirits in order for their mother and sister to return.

Page 8
They did not like this deal and ran away. However, death came looking for them wanting to reap their souls from their body.

I started off this weeks reading with Mobius Stories from Heavy Metal. This comic allowed European artists to showcase their talent in western cultural comics. Mobius Stories from Heavy Metal comprised of multiple stories. The comic opened up with a story titled Arzak which caught me by surprise with the bright saturated colors. Another aspect about this story was that is was wordless. Wordless comics are becoming one of my favorites to read because of how it relies more on the illustration and the placement of the subject matter to explain the narrative. The same thing also happens in the movie the Triplets of Belleville. There isn’t much talking in the film, however, I could tell exactly what was going on. This is a French made movie that depicts the story of a young man who works extremely hard to pursue the life of bicycling and competing. Killing Joke assessment

What is your reaction to the text you just read? This was a deeper and darker take on the Batman series. This story surprised me with twists and turns around every corner, especially the interrogation scene with Batman and the Joker and how Batman found out that the Joker in the room was a fake. This story dosnt waste any time to take action and get serious. The moment detective Gordons daughter was shot I was shocked but not as shocked when Gordon was dragged to a carnival and stripped naked by the Jokers henchmen. Even though this comic was dark, I found it quite humorous at times. Especially the ending where the Joker made Batman laugh. I thought that was a perfect way to end the story. This comic felt like it was in the realm of dark humor. What connection did you make with the story, discuss the elements of the work with which you were able to connect? Response to The Arrival By Shaun Tan

An illustration holds the ability to tell a story without words. Shaun Tan is able to depict a narrative without dialogue in his book “The Arrival”, and uses subtle clues in his story to inform the reader about the events. At first glance, my first notion of the story was that a man was in a dream. My reasonings behind this idea was because of the odd and random images. These images included giant tentacles swarming a city, funny shaped animals and other-worldly architectural designs. However, the further I looked into this book, the more pieces I was able to put together about the possible main idea behind the illustrated story. At first glance, I thought the main character was in a dream. However, it all added up to him being an immigrant in another country. If I were to only look at one of these images without the knowledge of the previous ones I wouldn’t have been able to come up with the answer that this was an immigration story.
