Killing Joke assessment

What is your reaction to the text you just read?

This was a deeper and darker take on the Batman series. This story surprised me with twists and turns around every corner, especially the interrogation scene with Batman and the Joker and how Batman found out that the Joker in the room was a fake. This story dosnt waste any time to take action and get serious. The moment detective Gordons daughter was shot I was shocked but not as shocked when Gordon was dragged to a carnival and stripped naked by the Jokers henchmen. Even though this comic was dark, I found it quite humorous at times. Especially the ending where the Joker made Batman laugh. I thought that was a perfect way to end the story. This comic felt like it was in the realm of dark humor.

What connection did you make with the story, discuss the elements of the work with which you were able to connect?

To be honest, I was laughing at pretty much every momment of this comic, even though it was dark. I found it hillarous when Batman was fooled in the interrogation room with the Joker and found out he was a fake. This was a sign that the Joker was one step ahead of Batman. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Batman fan and love to see the Batman succeed on every level, but I found it hilarious to see that the Joker got the best of him. Also, the scene where the joker pulls out his iconic fake gun and shoots it with the words click on the flag was a great addition to the story. I also found the setup of the carnival strange and amusing. The way the Jokers throne was set up with baby dolls was perfect. This story felt like it was focused more on the Joker and his take on tormenting others, especially Gordon and how he put him on a carnival ride while naked, which I still found hilarious.

What changes would you make to adapt this story into another medium?

Because this story felt like a dark comedy, I would turn this into a stop motion animated short film. This story isn’t extremely long and could be compressed into a 10 minute stop motion film. It would be dark but hilarious not only because of the story but because of the stop motion animated style which will allow the viewer to not take the film as serious. The carnival scene would be perfect in this medium with stop motion and real life toys to make the scene even more terrifying. Actual lighting will also be applied which will create real life atmosphere.
